Arsenal vs Leicester City Prediction and Match Preview
Well, this should be a cracking match between two sides with very different fortunes so far this season. Arsenal are flying high in 4th place, just 2 points off the top, while Leicester are still searching for their first win and sit 15th.
The Gunners were unlucky not to beat Manchester City last weekend, only conceding a 98th-minute equaliser despite playing over half the match with 10 men. They bounced back in style though, thumping Bolton 5-1 in the Carabao Cup in midweek. Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side can carry that momentum into this one.
As for Leicester, they’ve drawn 3 and lost 2 of their opening 5 games. They needed penalties to get past League One Walsall in the cup in their last outing. Manager Steve Cooper will be under pressure to get a result here, as the Foxes look to avoid matching their winless start from the 2022/23 season that ultimately ended in relegation.
Arsenal have won their last 5 league meetings with Leicester, including a 4-2 victory at the Emirates last August. The Gunners are unbeaten in 39 home games against promoted sides since 2010, so the odds are stacked against the visitors.
Key Stats
- Arsenal have won 75.9% of pre-match simulations against Leicester, according to the Opta supercomputer.
- Bukayo Saka could become the first player to assist a goal in each of his side’s first 6 Premier League games this season.
- Leicester have both scored and conceded in all 5 of their league matches so far – only in 2015/16 have they had a longer such run to start a season.
Prediction
I reckon Arsenal will have too much quality for Leicester here. The Gunners’ home form against newly-promoted teams is formidable, and with the likes of Saka, Jesus and Trossard in fine form, I’m backing a comfortable 3-0 win for the hosts.
